Toolcraft

We were delighted to invite  specialist playworker playground designer Simon Bazley, all the way from North Wales was delighted with the results of the Toolcraft course at the Wild Fox playground this March.

TOOLCRAFT is a free accredited level 2 course aimed at developing practitioner skills in tool use when working alongside children and young people. This course is open to anyone aged 16 years or over.  The course was held at the Wild Fox Playground, Smallcombe Road TQ3 3SP, on Sat & Sun 15th and 16th March 10.00 – 3.00pm

This course explored how to use hand tools for small construction activities and provide practitioners with the knowledge, confidence and skills to support and risk assess children and young people’s use of tools.

To accompany our TOOLCRAFT course we also offered a building with tools experience day for children aged 8 plus which was a fun way to have a go at using tools with the support from adults and with opportunities for getting creative! They also provide an opportunity to learn about the safe use of tools.

Although it was cold, it was bright and sunny and the young people who came made a wonderful variety of wooden creations with the support of adults including two swings, a bird feeder and a guitar!

Simon said: ‘I think the atmosphere yesterday was just perfect, and the children who attended clearly got a lot out of it’.

A parent sent a note:  ‘Thank you my daughter came home so excited to tell us how much fun she'd had using tools and making things. Was lovely to see her excited over learning (doesn't happen when she's at school) so a big thankyou 😊

A parent said: ‘ The boys thoroughly enjoyed the event yesterday! Thank you :)’

We are lucky enough to be having a second Toolcraft weekend with Simon, and will be confirming the date very soon.  We recommend you book early because all the young people who came yesterday want to come again.
